Global Warming Makes itself Known in Chicago
February 1, 2012
The news is reporting that Chicago has had their warmest winter in 80 years. The Stephen Dent Planet Defenders are worried that this is the result of global warming. If we are seeing record heat like this here in the continental US, that might not seem so bad, right? WRONG! Even if seems nice to not be quite so cold, and not deal with as much snow, it is still actually a bad sign. It has to get colder in the winter, and be warm in the summer, or the entire ecosystem can get thrown out of whack. Some plants won’t grow, and others will grow too much, over crowding the soil.
Why bother talking about global warming? Because you can do something about it! Acknowledge your responsibility as a member of planet earth and do your part. Drive less, recycle, reduce, and reuse. Bike or walk when the weather permits, turn your faucet off when your brush your teeth, and spend 5 minutes or less in the shower. If you make these small changes and stick with them every day, when it seems cool or not, you can make a difference. There are no more excuses, make the changes and save planet Earth!
