Stephen Dent Teaches us About Blue Gold

November 5, 2011

Stephen Dent, Planet Defender, can’t stress enough the importance of blue gold. You know, blue gold? That precious substance we all need to live? That covers 2/3rds of the earth? Yes, we are talking about water. If we continue on our wasteful path, water will become more precious than oil, more precious than gold, and more precious than any substance on earth.
Saving water is easy, and more important than most people realize. There are many cities that are literally going to run out of water within the next 50 years; some within the next 30 years. Think about that. 30 is probably still in your lifetime, and it is almost certainly within your children’s lifetime. Imagine a water crisis. What will happen if everyone in the desert regions run out of water and move to the wetter regions? There could easily be civil war, but then combine this with the massive flood of foreigners who are also out of water, and you have a global disaster on your hands. And all you have to do to help make sure this image never becomes a reality is to turn off your faucet. It really is that simple. When you’re brushing your teeth, turn off the faucet. When you’re washing dishes, turn off the faucet. On days that it rains, turn off the sprinklers. Don’t turn on your shower and walk away while it warms up. Don’t let the water overflow when you add water to your pool.
It only takes small, common sense steps to make a large difference in your water usage. If you could save even one gallon of water a day, (if you turn your faucet off while brushing your teeth when you normally don’t, you will be almost there), that would be 7 gallons a week! And think what a difference it would make if everyone in your house, on your street, or in your neighborhood could all save 7 gallons of water a week!
This is the most important, and simplest, task that Stephen Dent has ever asked of his planet defenders. Stephen Dent advises you to protect your blue gold, because water is the only resource of its kind. There is no substitute for water, and when it runs out there are no other options. It is down to the wire now, either we save water today, or we die of thirst tomorrow.
